Hero dolphins swim with a man to protect him from sharks

IF THIS ISN’T proof that dolphins are supremely magical beings, we’ll eat our hats.

UK swimmer Adam West is trying to complete the Oceans Seven challenge, in which athletes attempt to complete the seven most difficult long-distance swims.

Opposing Views reports that he was told not to worry about sharks but on the sixth leg of the challenge, the 16-mile Cook Strait in New Zealand, he spotted one swimming below him.

Out of nowhere, a pod of ten dolphins appeared and swam beside him for more than an hour, scaring the shark away.

Adam said of the experience:

Rolling waves and big currents, but more important than that a dream come true – swimming with dolphins [for] over an hour! I’d like to think they were protecting me and guiding me home. This swim will stay with me forever.

Dolphins. Are. Magical.
